Designed and developed in collaboration with artist Cory Arcangel and the estate of Tony Conrad, the site presents an epic work of art by the late artist, filmmaker, and composer. The site has a straightforward interface that reveals information and revels in repetition, inspired by landmark pieces of minimalist art. The site allows listeners to explore a full archive of more than 6 continuous years of never-before-published piano recordings, each cataloged and annotated. The database and source code for the site are available to interested site visitors through the project’s public GitHub page.
Music and the mind of the world
From 1976 to 1982, Tony Conrad created "Music and the Mind of the World," a piano composition comprising over 200 hours of recorded music. During this time everything Conrad played on the piano was recorded (with the incidental exception of perhaps three or four hours).
